Legal Help:

what forms are needed for estate planning for a us citizen abroad?

my father has land in asia under his name and recently passed away, in order to transfer ownership to my mother, does anyone know what forms I would need to do this? other than bringing proof that he is my father, land deed and new person’s ID.

You need to talk to a lawyer in that country.

Of course you’ll need the proof, any relevant paperwork, an ID might help but a passport would be better. If you or your mother happen to have citizenship in that country that would probably secure your right to the property. The countries in Asia have very different laws. You need to find out about your specific country. Try connecting to English speakers in the country you have connections with. Here’s one link to some Asian chat.. http://www.asiafinest.com/

As I said Asian law isn’t like western law so you should get with it soon. If the law goes against you figure out a way to keep your family land. In asia the law isn’t as fair to foreigners as it is to locals and the locals often don’t get justice just the same. But there are ways to go around laws.

The only thing you are missing in your post is the country where your land is. That means the world in terms of solving your problem.
