Is Florida Education Holding Me Back?

I’ve only had a few teachers that have had a true impact on me in all the years I have lived in Florida, which is my entire life so far lol. Most of the other teachers just didn’t care, probably because of their salary. I am disgusted, actually, when I walk into a classroom and the teacher just sits behind the desk, doing absolutely nothing, while students fail. Trust me, I have seen it all, and these kids aren’t stupid either. I have been in the gifted program since I was in Kindergarten, and I love learning. It is weird, I know. My current English teacher, Ms. Simon is so wonderful. She teaches beyond the curriculum. I love that about teachers. Anyway, she tells me that this educational system is actually holding me back versus an education system in, say, California. Lucky me, I want to go to a California college, UCLA. I was really flattered when she said this to me, even though I’m probably not the only person she told this to, but it still made me feel great about myself. You know, I make mistakes. I am lazy, just like any other American kid in this society, lol. But, I actually like doing work if the class and the teacher are worth it. So, if you live in Florida, what are your thoughts on the educational system? Please do not refer to the FCAT or FCRAP… it has nothing to do with learning what so ever XD!

This has nothing to do with Florida education persay… we have a really good school system actually. It’s a mix of bad luck when it comes to teachers and that you are in high school not college. In high school most people only find like one amazing teacher per school year, at least that’s how it was for me and most of my friends. Don’t worry, when you get to any university, no matter the state, you will notice quite a change in teacher/student relationships.
